Austin mini session number two last night was all types of serious fun. I’m glad we didn’t let a little rain a couple of hours before the session derail our plans! Taking notes from this family who I have worked with for the fourth year. Sunday fun day, and then business as usual on Monday.

Once upon a time, there were two siblings whose great-grandparents acquired 400+ acres on lush fields just outside of Austin. They grew up spending time between their Houston home and this incredible ranch. Hurricane Harvey swept away five generations of memories last year. So grateful they trusted me to re-create their story. It was so much fun getting to know them and exploring their land. I don’t know which is more beautiful – these kids or their family’s history. An Austin newborn photographer is spoiled for choice when it comes to staging a picture. Between our springtime bluebonnets, our ever-expanding skyline, or the setting sun over the rolling hills, choices are aplenty. Sometimes all you really need is just the perfect little headband.

One of the keys to a successful newborn photography session is the trust a new parent places in the photographer. After all, the photographer is getting an intimate glimpse of that most precious time (and by “precious” we do mean “sleep deprived”) in a new parent’s life. Rachael was clear she didn’t want that perfect little hair bow to get too big but otherwise placed complete creative control with me, a choice that yielded some shots to cherish for years to come.
