Katie's Senior Portraits

We have had a series of miserable and dreary weather for what has felt like forever now! Is it me or does rain hinder all productivity of those around it? I wouldn’t last an entire season in Seattle.

Now that we’ve had our much needed dose of rain and I’ve had some time to get things in the studio in order, it’s time to break out the camera again. And what better way to celebrate the return of bright and sunny days than a fun senior session? Katie and I started at a fun diner I’ve been eying for over a month now, found ourselves in the middle of a mini wind storm, and ended up in the streets of downtown.

I’m really enjoying these senior sessions. These kids keep me young, happy and moving. Gone are the days of senior portraits with feather boas, fake carnations and stiff, awkward poses.

Featured in Town and Country

The latest issue of Town and Country just hit news stands in the Philippines and I was thrilled to find my photo featured, full page, in the weddings section! The bride has been my best friend for over 20 years and I couldn’t remember the last time we had a hard time sharing the spotlight. Talk about awesome..

“THUY NGUYEN married JAVIER COLAYCO in a sunset wedding ceremony at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Sanya, Hainan Island, China, followed by a reception at the scenic Ocean Pavillion. The bride is daughter of Ngoc and Tho Nguyen; the groom, the son of Tina and Nonoy Colayco. Three years after their fateful meeting at a party in New York, Javier proposed to Thuy in Central Park. She found the ring hidden in cashmere gloves. At the engagement party held at the bride’s home the Nguyens hosted a traditional Vietnamese tea and candle ceremony, which involved an exchange of gifts symbolizing the union of the two families.”

A must-see, awe-inspiring clip filmed and edited by the amazing Mayad Studios. They shared this with the guests during the wedding reception and it was such a treat for all. I still tear up every time I replay the video. Too beautiful for words!

Kimberly + Justin

Hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend, and an even better summer. I took time off for a weekend “staycation” and relaxed with loved ones from New York City, Austin, Atlanta, Tampa and Orlando. I know we still have approximately four weeks to enjoy the beach and sun, but I am quite ready for fall.

Meet Kimberly and Justin, newlyweds from Alabama.

Every so often I come across a set of images that exude summery power. Such is the case with photos from today’s session. Kimberly came clad in a lovely, white sundress and you can see how the summer gods really blessed us with much of its sunny wonder. Here are a few of my golden picks.

Kristen + Jesse

I met Kristen & Jesse on Friday for sunset photos. The couple had been on a dolphin cruise all day and returned two hours later than scheduled, so they were scrambling to get to the shoot on time. I was happy with the images we captured that evening Kristen wanted meet again at 6:30AM this morning. Jesse didn’t mind a bit, so of course I obliged. They were such a nice, laid back couple and easy to work with.

Easy like Sunday morning..

Simpson Sisters' Portraits

One of the things I love most about my job is the opportunity I get to meet a person, or couple, and connect with them in the short amount of time we spend together. Today was a treat, I got to run around the beach and chat with the Simpson family. They were the most kind, loving, and beautiful people and their love for each other is so evident it makes you want to smile!

Elaina and Kalie were naturals in front of the camera…it made my job easy as pie. I loved how their flowy, baby blue dresses picked up the ocean hues and their curls added a bit of WOW to each photo. Thanks to Stacey for helping me keep curls out of the girls’ faces and also to Allen for keeping the bubbles flowing. I am so glad we were able to squeeze in this session before the return trip to Birmingham. Looking forward to family portraits next year!
