{austin weddings} suzanne + jairy

I shot Suzanne and Jairy’s “Something Green” wedding last month at Springdale Farm and I’m finally ready to share the first set of images! You may remember them from their summer engagement session.

The couple set out to “reuse, reduce, recycle” as much as possible that day and their lifestyle was reflected perfectly in every gorgeous detail. Making it a point to stay away from retail stores as much as possible, Suzanne and Jairy used re-purposed plates, jars, plates and wine bottles for their wedding and reception decor. Card stock was donated for their invitations and napkins were made out of fabric swatches.

It was a beautiful day to be on the farm and I felt extremely blessed to be there and capture their love. The bride and groom are amazing individuals from wonderful families and I foresee a lifetime of happiness and friendship between the two.

{austin photographer} video bio

Over a year ago, I sought out several videographers to help me produce an online video that would allow me to connect directly with prospective clients in a personal way. After an unsuccessful attempt or two, my multi-talented friend Marta, film director, producer, and editor, approached me about the exact thing I was needing.

{Sidenote: As I type this post, my dear friend is enroute to Italy to accept the NociCortinfestival Award – so much hugs and love to her wherever in the world she is right now!! Check out her amazing work when you get a chance: http://www.sandboxhero.com}

She and another very talented friend, Hugh, followed me during a wedding last fall to bring you some behind-the-scene action and later did some interviewing which further proves I belong BEHIND the camera and never IN FRONT. I had so much fun creating this. Hope you all enjoy!

7 quick takes

1- STEMS Floral Design

I recently had the great pleasure of working with STEMS when shooting a wedding at the W. They reached out for a few shots  and I’m sure you’ll agree these designers produce some of the best bouquets and arrangements I’ve seen in Austin weddings. Be sure to check them out if you have an upcoming wedding in Austin!

2- Friday Confession

I have friends with fine taste in books {and wine} – and apparently so does the little Miss. She plays with a group of ardent readers and I was pleasantly surprised to receive this lovely gift {among many others} from one of her BFFs, Master P. The story line isn’t of much substance but the artwork is just amazing. Awe-inspiring. You can also find Jane Eyre, Alice in Wonderland, and Romeo and Juliet in this collection of Baby Lit hardcover books.

Yes, I am the last person on earth to read Pride & Prejudice. I also have not seen Pretty Woman, Princess Bride, or Wedding Crashers. There, I feel so much better.

3- Bride Spotlight

I received this very lovely Save the Date yesterday. Don’t you just adore the organic feel, clean and modern lines and rich colors of the wonderful design? So tastefully done. I can’t wait to see all the details this savvy couple will bring together for their big day!

4- Mini Sessions Returning this Fall

I’m currently working on nailing dates for my mini sessions this fall. Yay! This is perfect for any individuals, couples, or families/groups with camera shy members or young children who might not last 60-90 minutes for my typical portrait session.  Included is a 25-minutes of unlimited capture, online gallery for viewing, sharing and ordering, your choice of three high-resolution images and a release which will allow you full rights to printing, ordering Christmas cards, and pursuing crafts on Pinterest. Each spot is $75 and availability is limited, so if you want to go ahead and get your name on the list or would like more information, feel free to leave a note!

5- More Cheese Less Whine

Looking forward to some girl time this weekend with my ladies. Henri’s Cheese and Wine, Swifts Attic, Haddington’s. Endless possibilities..

6- The Funeral of Black Dresses in the Day Along with My Disappearing Waistline

For the second week in a row, I finish getting dressed for swim class and proceed to gather our belongings when my offended toddler barks, “No, Mommy, don’t wear that dress. Please take off!” Of course it is met by laughter, to which she responds by attempting to remove said article of clothing. I had intended to snap a photo of my offensive swimsuit cover, but after taking this photo of Miss T in her new swimsuit for her Aunties, my fancy camera received a phone call and I faultlessly let it slip my mind.

7- Notwithstanding Little Person Commands

Without giving away too much, here’s an update on my video bio. I began this project over a year ago, then it managed to fall apart and my very talented friends came to the rescue and revamped it completely. Stay tuned.

Happy Friday! Xo

{Austin Weddings} Kifany + Matt

Many of you lovelies have patiently awaited the full blog from Kifany and Matt’s Austin wedding! Let’s begin by saying Kif’s pre-wedding calmness was plentiful, more than humanly possible of any bride. She floored her guests {and photographers} with her beautiful gown and sparkly pair of gold Kate Spade heels. Also dressed to impress were the bridesmaids who wore statement pieces by one of my favorites, Kendra Scott, and kept the peacock theme with bold heels. The wedding was held at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and the reception and party started immediately after at the W Hotel Banquet Hall. Sweet stylings were provided by the uber talented STEMS floral. Love, love, loved the girls’ bouquets. One of the highlights of the night was Matt’s brief disappearance and his re-emergance, masquerading in a Superman costume. Need I say more about this fun groom/couple? Here are several of my favorite images of their big day and there are plenty more waiting to be adored in their online gallery.

Kif and Matt- thanks for allowing me to be part of your amazing wedding. I look forward to sharing many more special moments with you!! xo

{austin wedding} Kifany + Matt: A Sneak Peek

Where’s the old international policy which mandates all wedding photographers receive an in-home massage the morning after any big event? I know it’s Tuesday night, but better late than never!

I had the great pleasure of photographing Kifany + Matt’s wedding at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and W Hotel this past Saturday. You may remember them from an engagement session we did this past fall.  Kif, ever the stunner, donned a Vera Wang dress  which looked freshly picked from the runway amongst a garden of pretty petaled pieces. Wouldn’t you agree?

The lovely couple took off to Kuaui this morning for their honeymoon and I wish them lots of sun, sand, and more pretty dresses. xo!

How the Mega-Million Jackpot Will Not Change My Life

I know my 2012 wedding season is just getting off to a start but let’s set the record here. One thing’s for sure- Powerball win or loss, I plan to continue my career as a wedding photographer for the remainder of 2012 {and for as long as you pretty people allow me}! And $5,000 to each of my loyal fans, followers, and readers.

Back to reality. Tonight I got to hop aboard the Lake Austin Riverboat to cover the rehearsal dinner cruise of my dear clients, Kifany and Matt. I had a wonderful time getting to meet some of tomorrow’s guests and most importantly I managed to survive a record setting three hours on the boat without getting seasick like the last time!

Time to {fret over what to wear} rest up for tomorrow’s long day.

{Austin Wedding Photography} Rachel + Nathan

It was during their third dinner together, while sitting together across a small table in a dimly lit room, that this couple knew they would be spending the rest of their lives together. While out grocery shopping {only like old married couples} later that night, they found temporary bands to seal their commitment until their forthcoming engagement. Swoon.

You may recognize Rachel and Nathan as they made their debut here on the blog not long ago. What I failed to mention earlier was that they happen to be dear friends of ours and two lovely individuals we also, coincidentally, adore.

Nathan and Rachel treated their east coast relatives an Austin-themed Jewish wedding weekend and what a true honor and joy it was to be a part of a celebration so full of love, culture, and tradition. Now, please raise your left ring finger if you’ve ever heard a bride’s vows in Arabic. (Me!). There were many moments of surprise and delight – not the least of which was seeing Rachel’s grandfather who, due to an unplanned trip to the emergency room the week of the wedding,  was able to watch, listen, and later speak to the couple and their guests all from the comfort of his bed via an iPad. I think it is time I wish I had one!

A third shooter was brought on board to shoot welcome photos and candid photos and several guys were brought in to print photos as the guests dine and danced. Then, at the end of the night, each family and couple received a personalized photo album filled with photos from the wedding as a party favor. Technology+Instant Gratification=Tru3 Love 4ever.

Thank you, Rachel and Nathan, for allowing me to be part of your special day. I am so happy for you both and I hope these memories will be cherished for many generations to come.  Now let me go plan a second marriage (to the same person of course) – one which will also involve a horah and schtick -  as I patiently await news of your pregnancy and an iPad in my stocking. Mazel Tov!!

xo,
Ziem

{Austin Wedding Photography} Melissa + Jesse

Melissa and Jesse are two of the most genuine, kind, and fun people you’ll ever meet and Scott and I were thrilled to be a part of their wedding day. It was another one of those events where I can’t believe I get to call having fun my job while I spend time with a host of fabulous people. Their wedding and reception took place at Laguna Gloria (it doesn’t get any more charming or beautiful for an Austin wedding) and they were surrounded by a spectacular cast of friends and family. Melissa was all aglow from head to toe, literally, she rocked the dance floor all night in her rhinestone-studded heels as a very grand husband looked on.

Congratulations, again, Melissa & Jesse! Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your special day. Here are just a few of my favorites. I hope you enjoy the rest!

xo,

{Austin Engagement} Tina + Dustin

“Love!!!! It made me cry good cry. Dustin loved it.”

I met Tina in the very late 90′s when I was in high school. We both lived in FL at the time and she would often serve my sisters and I “sampler platters and strawberry tall cakes” as I was told on the day of this engagement session. I always thought her sweet and and it was about a year or so later that Tina and I would find ourselves at the same parties among common friends, being silly and quoting lines from the movie “Freeway”. I always had my camera in tow and I remember the “mean” faces Tina would give me anytime I snapped a compromising photo.

Fast forward ten+ years – Tina’s perfect guy pops the question and she decides they would drive over to Austin from San Antonio for engagement photos. Although it had been a decade since we’d last seen each other and spoken to one another, I immediately knew the places I had to take her and her fiance. I was ecstatic. And as you can see in these photos, it really didn’t matter where I took Tina and Dustin. These two are pretty much comfortable together anywhere. Should I mention their first date lasted an entire weekend?

And this is why I love my job – photography can open you up to something new, bring you somewhere unexpected, and take you places that are old and familiar. Tina & Dustin – thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of this special time in your life. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my old friends {talking history not age here} happy. Not even chocolate milkshakes or strawberry tall cakes. I hope you enjoy the photos and slideshow!

{Austin Weddings} Melissa + Jesse

Woke up feeling fortunate to have been a part of the super-blingy and fabulous wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Glider and I couldn’t resist sharing a photo of the lovely newlyweds. They were married at Laguna Gloria in our wonderful Austin, TX last night with the help of the wonder-worker/everyone’s favorite Austin wedding planner, Liv.

And for the record – I teared up 3x last night during the wedding and reception and, yes, once again this morning {but who’s counting?} when I saw Dad’s first look at his baby girl. Thank you, Melissa and Jesse, for allowing me the opportunity to do what I love. I cannot wait to share the rest!!

Austin Wedding Photography: Wallace Part I

September came and went. Really.

In the past few weeks alone, I did an Austin family portrait session, attended an Austin Young Chamber networking event, hopped in the car for two weekend trips with my family, photographed a wedding in Bastrop, attended a Young Women’s Alliance meeting and heard more about “Branding Your Business”, attended an ISES meeting and learned more about “Blogging for Better Business” with panelists Camille Styles and Austin Eavesdropper: Tolly Moseley, captured production stills for my friend’s short film in Dripping Springs, started second semester of Music Together and built my first ever photo prop (more on that later). Five sessions for the remainder of the week, then it’s time to buckle up for October- two weddings, an engagement session, Halloween Play Date, Halloween Party and ADELE IN CONCERT with the girls.

And that’s what life is all about- balancing pleasure, passion, family and sleep! Maybe everything except for the last part.

It’s been a while since I’ve shared any photos so here are a few of the many images I captured while second-shooting with Kim last weekend at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort. More to come!

Austin Country Club Bat Mitzvah

At times I find it hard to write about my work and the people I meet through photography. How many different ways can you use gorgeous, colorful, fun and sweet? The problem is all these things are true and this job was no exception.  I had the opportunity to guest shoot a B’Not Mitzvah at the Austin Country Club last month and let me tell you it was one. big. dance party! Should I be ashamed to admit I left this event wanting to learn the “Dougie”?
