It may be cliche, but Spring truly is a time for new beginnings. It’s this natural cycle of starting fresh that is never closer in our consciousness than in the presence of a newborn child. Miraculous doesn’t even begin to describe the feeling filling my heart. This was my first glance at sweet Baby Taylor and gorgeous mom Lauren during their Austin newborn photography session.
It was only a few weeks prior when we had met to capture Lauren’s incredible feminine beauty as she prepared to give birth. The family is a recent transplant from Houston to Austin. Already, they seemed so comfortable and at ease in their new city, new house, and new beginning for their life together as a family of four.
This is baby boy number two for the Taylors, with big brother Harrison eager to teach his new sidekick all about this amazing world. Harrison is smart and sweet : a gentle giant compared to baby brother, while still an energetic little leader emerging in his new circumstance.
Lauren is a perfect subject. Not only is she beautiful and glowing, but she follows my session preparations to a tee. She fed the babe 30 minutes before my arrival which typically lulls them into a wistful slumber. This crew was classic but casual, ensuring a timeless quality for their images.
This little man had a change of heart however later in the session, revving into a ravenous, extended meal. And what our top model wants, our top model gets! Everyone adjusted well to the newborn’s feeding frenzy; Dad expertly entertained Harrison, Mom transitioned to change clothing, and I distracted that bundled babe from Mom’s sweet smell long enough to sneak some more sensational shots. Baby was finally tuckered out by the time Dad took over (it’s practically a Law of Nature, isn’t it?), but when he awoke again we captured a few more warm moments of this wonderful family that is walking through so many new doors.
We shot in their home, where they had just moved five days prior to baby’s arrival. Astonishingly it was mostly unpacked already, though I could envision these irreplaceable images hopefully gracing the bright barren walls soon. In the air there flowed an essence of freshness as we followed their fun to backyard frolics. This family is finding their footing in a new chapter. There’s so much promise and wonder of what is to come. I couldn’t feel more fortunate to record this era of change springing forth for them. And to snuggle their pint-sized peapod, of course. A photographer’s bliss!
