Austin Children Photographer | Southern Belles

This session has me beaming ear to ear for so many reasons and I hope that after seeing a few of the images you’ll be smiling with me.

I began photographing these two little loves together when they turned six months and it has been fun keeping the tradition on their “austin cake smash” two years later. Since we’ve had this unusual, perpetual gloom for weeks now, I resorted to shooting indoors. This space was perfect in conveying a girlish sense while allowing our wee ones to be playful and adventurous. I was floored by all the beautiful details and stunning light. As evidenced by its appearance in every room and almost every shot, the highlight of the session was the awe-inspiring vintage typewriter.

Today also happened to be the girls’ last day of preschool and I’m going to miss seeing them together (not to mention Stella’s show-stopping outfits). Happy 2 and 1/2 to Zara and Stella!

Austin Family Photography – Bluebonnet Season Blues

Just in time for that legendary Austin time of year – bluebonnet season, Austin family photographer Ziem offered her fabulous mini-sessions package. Appropriate to the color of the season, the Glazer family and their bluebonnet-blue eyes made for a fun session:

As is wont to happen with shoots involving toddlers, the oldest brother proved adorable but decided photo time was a time to act, well, toddler-y. Ziem, being all too familiar with toddler tricks, managed to wrangle some fabulous shots regardless.

Dad masterfully corralled the older brother so that Mom & baby brother could enjoy some shots together, just in time for Mother’s Day.

Ziem loved working with the Glazers & particularly enjoyed Mom’s attention to the shoot details. Mom took advantage of Ziem’s complimentary wardrobe consultation services and carefully planned the family’s wardrobe pre-shoot. Ziem can’t wait to work with the Glazers & those bluebonnet blues again, toddler tricks & all!

Family Lifestyle Photographer Austin – Rub-a-Dub-Dub, Three Kids in the Tub

When longtime clients the Bayne family asked Ziem to shoot their precious baby boy during bath time, she couldn’t wait to jump at the creative challenge. Having shot multiple events for the Baynes, from Leila’s first birthday (Photographer’s update: see Leila’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” glam session), to a maternity and newborn session, this sudsy shoot would be the one Ziem loved most of all. With Lawson being the Baynes’ final child, they were eager to capture the precious ritual of baby bath time for posterity. There’s just something so intimate, so sweet about that fresh baby smell post-bath. The way they snuggle into you as you towel the day’s worries away is priceless. The shoot began with Mom & Baby Boy alone in the bath. Of course Big Brother , a.k.a. Chief Executive Bubble Blower, wanted in on the fun! He patiently awaited his turn to join. But not before waking up his little sister.

Big Sister, groggy from an interrupted nap, rallied to the occasion. Ziem donned her 2yo’s thinking cap (something she claims to do on the regular) and engaged Leila in some princess talk. Austin Newborn Photographers – The Best Laid Plans . . .

You know how the saying goes – “The best laid plans . . .”, and when it comes to newborn photography, it’s as if Murphy & her Law applies in double. No matter how much mom or photographer try to plan a shoot around a newborn’s “schedule”, baby usually has his own ideas about when he’ll cooperate. Sweet Baby J was no exception, but in embracing the chaos, his family – repeat Ziem photography clients – ended up with glorious shots like this:

Baby J decided that “photo time” was actually code for “feeding & diapering time”, so he put Mom & Dad through their new parenting paces as Ziem snapped away. As many babies do, J had his days & nights mixed up; luckily it is impossible to be frustrated with a face this cute.

Family pooch Jasper provided the comic relief. He wasn’t interested in baby so much as cuddles & scratches from photographer-in-chief Z, but that resulted in some fabulous shots as well.

Austin Maternity Photography : Human Race

Upon arriving at this maternity photo session location, I learned this gorgeous mama had just received word from her doctor earlier in the day she was 3cm dilated.

As you can imagine, the delivery of the exciting news – albeit unexpected – coupled with the thrill of big brother’s recent 2nd birthday celebration had us all on a high. In the appropriate sense, I came with balloons which for the first time in history of Ziem Photography flew away just after a few frames. But before a single tear or meltdown would ensue, I pulled out my back-ups (a magical bubble gun and lots of nursery rhymes) which resulted in this set of maternity portraits.

When G had enough of my “stylish vocals”, we called it a day and I let out a huge sigh of relief that the session did not extend beyond maternity and into birthing.

It was a great pleasure working with this family again. I’m so excited to share that their 2nd child is finally here, happy, healthy and handsome as can be. Ending with one of my favorites from last year:
