Pursuit of Happiness

“You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for work as it is for lovers.

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life and the only way to be truly satisfied

is to do what you believe is great work.

And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.

If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. And don’t settle.

As with all matters of the heart you’ll now when you find it.

As with any relationship, it keeps getting better as the years go on.

So keep looking. Don’t settle.

Austin Wedding Photography: Wallace Part I

September came and went. Really.

In the past few weeks alone, I did an Austin family portrait session, attended an Austin Young Chamber networking event, hopped in the car for two weekend trips with my family, photographed a wedding in Bastrop, attended a Young Women’s Alliance meeting and heard more about “Branding Your Business”, attended an ISES meeting and learned more about “Blogging for Better Business” with panelists Camille Styles and Austin Eavesdropper: Tolly Moseley, captured production stills for my friend’s short film in Dripping Springs, started second semester of Music Together and built my first ever photo prop (more on that later). Five sessions for the remainder of the week, then it’s time to buckle up for October- two weddings, an engagement session, Halloween Play Date, Halloween Party and ADELE IN CONCERT with the girls.

And that’s what life is all about- balancing pleasure, passion, family and sleep! Maybe everything except for the last part.

It’s been a while since I’ve shared any photos so here are a few of the many images I captured while second-shooting with Kim last weekend at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort. More to come!

{Austin Photographer} Fuentes Family

Some of you might remember the lovely Ashley & Neil’s Austin engagement session several months ago. And if you don’t you should check out their save the date video slide show. Ashley was so gracious to refer this latest adorable family of four to me.

The Fuentes recently moved to McAllen and decided they wanted to do a summertime family session here in their old stomping ground before their family grew any bigger or older. We chose to shoot at the lake, the park and South Congress. These also happen to be some of my Austin favorites; I immediately knew this would be my kind of family.

The ladies were poised in their absolutely beautiful handmade dresses. I loved how the colors and patterns popped in each of the photos and the vibrant warmth of the sunset mixed in perfectly. And just when I thought the girls might have had enough after two hours in this triple digit weather while breaking in new shoes….they invited me over for a post-session play date/dinner. Are there words to describe how sweet? No. Photos? Maybe.

Mario and Monica, thank you for putting your trust in me and allowing me to have so much fun on this fine, hot summer day!

Austin Photographer: Summer Lovin'

“I am so in love with these pictures.  I will treasure them forever.  Was SO excited to see baby H smiling in our family picture – wow, you are amazing! Thank you again – if you ever need a reference, please send them my way!”

I was commissioned to photograph this family on the beach earlier this month and let me begin by telling you I have visited over a handful of Caribbean islands, I have experienced the scenic drive along the Pacific coast, and I even once dug my toes into the sand of a beach just outside of NYC. But there is something special about this modest Florida beach. Every time I visit I can’t help but be taken aback by the beauty. It offers a serene, natural setting and a peaceful respite from the town’s bustling tourist attraction that is literally a stones throw away from where the portrait session took place. Margaritaville to be exact!

In a way, this charming beach almost embodies the personality of family I had the pleasure of photographing. The session was incredible. The family is beautiful and their ease was contagious. The light was golden that day and I hope they will treasure these memories for generations to come.

Happy Friday!

xoxo Z

Colors + Bubbles = Fashion

With the help of Mayra, Thu and Grace, I celebrated Wednesday of Austin Fashion Week at the Kendra Scott Boutique where we all had way too much fun customizing our own jewelry at the in-store Color Bar. Mayra and I had the opportunity to chat with the designer and it is nice to know that behind all the exceptional work we so appreciate is an incredible person and mom. The girls and I channeled our inner Kendra with the help of some bubbly and cupcakes (or in my case cupcake, I was good tonight) from The Cupcake Bar.
