Engagement Session + Save the Date Video: Ashley & Neil

“Ziem, these photos are absolutely amazing! I’m blown away with the number of incredible shots!!! We cannot wait to share the video with our friends and family. Thank you!!!”

I received an email from this soon to be bride who attempted for many months tracking down my name and contact info. She finally managed to succeed only weeks after booking her wedding photographer. I must admit I was quite disappointed to learn I missed the opportunity to be the austin photographer capturing the union of such a fabulous pair. But I am so glad to have had the great pleasure of meeting Ashley and Neil for their engagement photos.

Ashley has a smile that could melt any heart like ice-cream on a sunny day and Neil has a likeability factor that can be spotted from a mile away. (Side note: anyone notice Neil slightly resembling the young James Taylor on the record cover or did I edit the slideshow far too many times?) Really- could I have dreamt up a more ideal couple’s story to capture..no or probably not? Ditto. And to say they look great together is an understatement.

We chose the location W hotel since this is where they will wed. And their story began back in September of 2007 during a Dave Matthews Band concert at ACL so it was great we could snap a photo in front of Moody Theatre.

Ashley and Neil- Congratulations and all the best on this very special occasion. May the years ahead of you be filled with the joy and love. I hope these photos will be shared for generations to come.

Fragmental Thoughts

Vistitors are fun.  Modern Vintage Birthday Carnival on the brain. Post-processing for four shoots pending. Dave Matthews Band on Pandora. Needed a pedi two weeks ago. Sunday family nap is 1/3 incomplete. Can’t wait to read my new book. Love my new hair cut. My darling Tulsi starts swimming lessons next month. What ever happened to my newborn? Not ready for the stifling heat. Missing my family terribly. Craving a spontaneous 10k jog. In search of a road bike.

Please forgive me, dear Internet and blog, for I have neglected you. I will have a real treat for you soon! Happy Sunday.

xo, Z

The World Just Got A Little Prettier

This is living proof that great things come in small packages. I got to meet sweet baby Maya on her 8th day of life and despite her early arrival- four days before her mom’s baby shower and also the week of SXSW when her parents’ band was scheduled for multiple performances- it was pretty evident she is such a welcome addition to her parents and big brother, Julian. Maya was so alert for a newborn. And her expressions. I really wish I could photograph a transcript of her thoughts. I would wager she is thinking in the third photo, “Did the world just get a little prettier?” or “Mom, you are amazing. Is there ANYTHING you cannot do?”

I got a quick peek at the nursery and I was just blown away by all the hand painting Tracy and her mom had done. I look forward to returning for another session once they have completed the mural.  But for now, enjoy a few of my favorites from this session.

Strong Winds Bring on Category 4 Cute

This past weekend I headed over to Spanish Oaks to spend the morning with one super fun family which included two incredibly entertaining girls, and need I say adorable?!

One of the amenities of this charming community was a neighborhood pond and Fish Camp and we used the latter as our home base and shelter from looming winds. I loved the rustic feel of the interior and the windows lent some amazingly glorious window light. In keeping things au naturale, I also brought on my natural warm filter – better known as the bright Austin sun – which yielded a few shots with an editorial feel. These girls were so charming- precocious little Miss M educated me on some modern day myths and darling little S asked for multiple “breaks”. Some models just need their rest… They were also colorfully dressed and it left me ever so hopeful for an early spring and another daughter!!

Imposing wind, hot sun, and I heard later one of the two happened to be sick that morning… I must say post-portrait-session treat well-deserved! I sure hope Mom and Dad delivered 🙂 Jennifer and Steve- I really hope to work with you and your little women again soon. Thank you for inviting me into your home and allowing me to capture these precious moments in their lives. Enjoy the video and slideshow!

Austin Wedding and Portrait Photographer: Tu Too Cute

“Thanks, Ziem! It was truly a pleasure to FINALLY get to meet you! You were fantastic to work with, despite all the challenges Miss M gave you! :P”

Kim and I had been trying to schedule a family portrait session for months, so by the time the stars aligned, we were practically friends! I know I talk ad nauseum about the wonderful Austin families I get to meet through photography, but the Tus are above all amazing people. Their love and respect for one another is clearly evident and I loved getting to spend the beautiful afternoon with them at Zilker Park. It took a while for little Miss M to warm up but I have discovered a bubble gun, handful of strawberries, and napkin was all that’s required to solicit smiles and expressions from this soon-to-be big sis! That’s right, mama Kim is sporting an adorable bump and I couldn’t help but steal her for a few maternity portraits.

Here are a few of my favorites!
